India’s UTC+5:30 offset is one of the few half-hour timezone shifts in common use. Developers across India regularly convert UTC timestamps from cloud services, CI/CD pipelines, and monitoring tools to local IST.
IST is 5 hours and 30 minutes ahead of UTC, all year. There is no daylight saving adjustment. A deploy logged at 12:00 UTC happened at 5:30 PM IST. A scheduled maintenance window at 02:00 UTC falls at 7:30 AM IST.
The half-hour offset can trip up automated systems that only handle whole-hour zones. When configuring alerting tools or calendar integrations, confirm that the system supports 30-minute offsets. Some older software truncates or rounds, producing incorrect local times.
