Introduction
TimeHopper ("we", "our", or "us") is a Chrome Extension designed to help you manage time zones and schedule
meetings. We respect your privacy and are committed to protecting your personal data.
Data We Collect
TimeHopper accesses the minimum amount of data necessary to function:
- Calendar Data: We access your Google Calendar events strictly to display them to you in
the extension popup and to provide meeting notifications. This data is fetched directly from Google's
APIs and is stored locally in your browser. We do not transmit this data to any external servers.
- User Preferences: using Chrome Storage, we save your settings (such as selected time
zones, working hours, and notification preferences).
- Analytics: We use aggregated, anonymous analytics (via Amplitude) to understand feature
usage and improve the product. This data does not contain personally identifiable information (PII) or
calendar details. No calendar content is ever sent to analytics.
Data Security and Protection Mechanisms
TimeHopper employs multiple technical layers of security to safeguard your sensitive Google user data:
- Encryption in Transit: All communications between the TimeHopper extension and Google APIs are secured using HTTPS (TLS 1.2+) encryption. This ensures that your calendar information cannot be intercepted by third parties during transmission.
- Sandboxed Local Storage: TimeHopper does not transmit or store your calendar data on external servers. All data is saved exclusively within the browser's protected local storage, which is isolated from other websites and extensions through browser-level sandboxing.
- Secure Token Management: OAuth 2.0 credentials and access tokens are handled using strict security procedures. They are stored securely within the browser and are never transmitted in plaintext. All tokens are revoked and permanently deleted when you sign out or uninstall the extension.
- Minimum Permissions: We adhere to the principle of least privilege, requesting only
calendar.readonly to display your schedule and userinfo.email to identify your account. - No Third-Party Sharing of Sensitive Data: We do not share, sell, or transmit your Google Calendar event content to any third parties, including our analytics provider (Amplitude).
- No AI Training: We guarantee that no information from your Google Calendar is used to train Large Language Models (LLMs) or any other machine learning systems.
- Limited Use Compliance: TimeHopper's use and transfer of information received from Google APIs to any other app will adhere to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.
User Control and Data Deletion
You have full control over your data. Since TimeHopper stores your calendar information strictly within your browser's local storage:
- Deleting Data: You can delete all locally stored data at any time by clearing your browser's extension storage or by uninstalling the extension.
- Access and Export: You can access your data at any time simply by opening the extension popup. No accounts or requests are needed as the data never leaves your device.
- Requesting Deletion: Because we do not store your calendar data on our servers, we have no copy of your data to provide or delete upon request. Your data remains entirely under your personal control.
International Privacy Rights (GDPR & CCPA)
We respect international privacy standards, including the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA). Under these regulations, you have the following rights:
- Right to Erasure: Fulfilled by your ability to uninstall the extension or clear local storage.
- Right to Access: Fulfilled by your ability to view your data within the extension UI.
- Right to Object: You can object to anonymous analytics processing by reaching out to us.
Our legal basis for processing your data is your explicit consent provided when you connect your Google Calendar, and our legitimate interest in providing the core time-syncing functionality of the tool.
Data Retention Policy
Your data is retained only as long as necessary to provide the service:
- Calendar Data: Retained in your local browser storage for the duration of your extension installation. It is permanently wiped upon uninstallation.
- Anonymous Analytics: Aggregated usage data (non-PII) is retained by Amplitude according to their standard retention policies for product improvement.
Third-Party Service Providers
We only share data with the following essential service providers:
| Provider | Purpose | Data Handled |
| Google APIs | Core Functionality | Calendar events & email (Read-only) |
| Amplitude | Product Improvement | Anonymous usage patterns (Non-PII) |
Children's Privacy
TimeHopper is not intended for use by children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect or solicit personal information from children. If we learn that we have collected personal information from a child under 13, we will delete that information as quickly as possible.
Changes to This Policy
We may update our Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any changes by posting the new Privacy Policy on this page and updating the "Last updated" date at the top of this policy.
